The best console games for children

Children love console games. Unfortunately, the most popular and big titles are aimed at teenagers and adults. For a variety of reasons, they can’t be considered suitable for children. Instead, it helps to know what games are out there that are suitable for children.

Before I begin however, it should always be noted that your choice of console will vary your options. If you find there aren’t enough appropriate games for your current console, don’t be afraid to sell it for something more appropriate. Not only could get cash for your Nintendo DS, for instance, but you’ll be better off in the long run, as your new console will have more games you know are suitable.

New Super Mario Bros. U

Mario games have always been a strong example of children friendly games. The games themselves are colorful and approachable, offering fun game-play and plat forming without unnecessary violence or adult themes. New Super Mario Bros. U is one of the latest in this line. A Wii U title, this game can have up to four people playing; perfect for when mum and dad want to share some family fun too.

Scribblenauts Unlimited

If there’s one game that’s both fun and educational, it’s Scribblenauts Unlimited. Another Wii U title, the game challenges players to increase  their vocabulary. This is perfect for children, who can put their creative energy into a constructive and educational process, as the game rewards those who experiment and try new words and adjectives.

Likewise, if you have a Nintendo DS, you can get the earlier Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts. These are smaller games, but follow a similar pattern. Any one of these games is perfect for teaching children vocabulary, with or without assistance from their parents. On their own, the game can be very rewarding, especially when it challenges more unique and creative thinking later on.

Skylanders

Available for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and 3DS, Skylanders covers most consoles. This is a simple platform game that’s colorful, vibrant and entertaining. The unique aspect of Skylanders is it uses a peripheral with smaller models. The models themselves affect what character children can play as, and stores their progress. As such, this game is great for anyone who values their own progress, but it’s also perfect for larger families; just buy each child their favorite character.

LEGO games

Children love LEGO, and they also love video games. Is it any surprise that the two have been put together more than a few times? It’s not just LEGO either; various franchises have been given the LEGO treatment. From Batman and Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, it’s not hard to find something any child would like.

Like the building blocks, these games are all about simple, open fun. Of course, these games make more sense if children have seen the film in question, yet they often offer some quick fun and entertainment regardless.

I am a frequent blogger and online writer with a taste for gaming and a passion for finding the right game for anyone. Whatever the age, gender or personal taste, I love to write about how gaming can be a benefit and joy to experience and that includes getting cash for Nintendo DS and other consoles online.
